Gràmar an Gnìomh — Grammar in Action

Short Gaelic phrases and sayings chosen for what they reveal about the language's structure — especially how pronouns fuse into prepositions. Mostly Gaelic → English; Scots is only included where a genuine equivalent exists.

Gaelic doesn't have words like "on me" or "at him" — instead, the preposition and the pronoun merge into a single new word (air + mi becomes orm). These are called prepositional pronouns, and they carry a lot of weight in everyday Gaelic: feelings, possession, identity, and plenty of idioms all lean on them. Each entry below shows the natural phrase, a breakdown of what's fused together, and the meaning.
